EASTER UPDATES

HAPPY EASTER to ALL!

I wanted to update you on three items of information this week:

(1) Easter Sunday Schedule & Times

Sunday will begin with a Continental Breakfast served in the Church social hall between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM.  This will be a drop-in breakfast of Krispy Kreme donuts and bagels with juice, milk, and coffee.

The morning worship will be at our normal 10:30 AM start time in the Main Auditorium.  There are several very special aspects to the service including communion.  This will be an awesome day of praise and worship of our risen Lord Jesus.

(2) Baskets of Blessing

Don’t forget to bring your filled “Basket of Blessing” for Operation Care.  Fill your basket with non-perishable food items to be taken to Operation Care to be given through the food pantry.  If you did not pick up a basket, you can bring your items in bags or boxes and transfer them to baskets once at Church.  Please place your baskets on the front altar of the Main Auditorium before the morning service begins.

(3) Cancer Survivors

Palmetto High School has been designated as a cancer awareness school and will once again be participating in Relay for Life for cancer research.  They would like to recognize any cancer survivors in our community in a very special way.  If you or a family member is a cancer survivor and would be willing to provide your name, address, and phone number – they would like to contact you to invite you to this recognition day.  You can reply to this email with your information, and I will compile it and give it securely to Tim Broome at Palmetto High School.  Thank You – and God bless!

Hope to see you all this Sunday morning – - –

In the Glory of our Risen Lord!

TEN COMMANDMENTS – Southern Style

One of our members handed me this and I thought it was worth sharing – especially since we are in the midst of a series on Sunday morning studying the Ten Commandments.

Since folks in the South aren’t quite used to talking in King James style, here is a re-phrasing of the Ten Commandments in local terms.

1.  Just one God!

2. Put nuthin’ afore God.

3. Watch yer mouth.

4. Git yerself to Sunday meetin’.

5. Respect yer Ma & Pa.

6. No killin’.

7. No foolin’ around with another fellow’s gal.

8. Don’t take what ain’t yers.

9. Guys – No tellin’ tales or gals – no gossipin’.

10. Don’t be hankerin’ fer yer buddy’s stuff.

Now, that’s plain and simple.  Even for us Southern folks.

Another Great Block Party!

We had a super crowd last night at the park – well over 400 people were present.

Thank all of you for the tremendous work you have put into the summer program.  We have knocked on over 2000 doors, made over 100 in-home visits, and hosted three block parties.  But most importantly, we have seen 8 individuals, that we know of, come to know Jesus Christ as Savior, and many more rededications and other decisions for Christ!  YOU are part of that!

THIS SUNDAY NIGHT – we will have our celebration service at 6:00 PM in the Main Auditorium.  There will be fantastic praise and worship, special music, and testimonies of how God has blessed individuals through the summer ministry. The angels have already rejoiced – let’s join them in celebration!

Included in that service – we will have a brief explanation of all of the new Sunday Night Small Groups that will begin on Sunday, September 5.  Come and find out where you can plug-in to Calvary in HD (Higher Devotion).

It’s Coming – - – THEME for New Church Year!

CBC HD 1

I am excited about the kickoff to the new Church year beginning in September! Our theme for September 2010 through August 2011 is “CALVARY IN HD!”  The HD stands for “Higher Devotion!”  We are striving to lead our entire Church to a Higher Devotion in their personal lives, in each and every ministry, and in the Church as a whole.

For Sunday School and Sunday Night Small Groups, we will use a modification of the theme:

New Minister of Music

We are excited to have Rev. Travis Berry to join our staff as our new Minister of Music and Worship.  Travis comes to us from Darlington where he served in a similar capacity.  He has a music degree from Lander University and an education degree from Southeastern Baptist Seminary.  Travis is married to his wife, Margaret, and they have two children Caleb (2) and Cooper (4 months).

Travis and Margaret are actually moving today (Monday) and will begin with us this week.

Please pray for them as they make the transition!

We are excited to see what God is going to do here at Calvary!

Backyard Bible Club!

Hey Guys –

At Calvary – there are always many ministries in which you can become involved.  There are ministries in all age groups, as well as both genders. You can get involved as leaders or helpers. But the main thing is that we believe each person should find an area of ministry to connect with and become involved!  That is the GOING part of our KNOWING – GROWING – GOING strategy that we implemented at Calvary 3 years ago.

Let me introduce you to a new ministry that Calvary is now involved with  – - –

It is a weekly Backyard Bible Club on Wednesday afternoons at West Pelzer Elementary School.  We have been asked to partner with Tabernacle Baptist Church to carry on the Club this year as they are in need of more workers.  The Club will begin on Wednesday, September 15 and will happen every week that school is in session until March 30.  The Club will begin at 2:30 (we ask that you come at 2:00 to set up) and be finished at 4:00 pm.  We have a need for at least 10 adults to help weekly, with most being Grade Shepherds.  Tabernacle will provide the Coordinator (Diane Cooley), the Bible Lesson Teacher (Rev. Buckshot Avant), the Memory Verse Leader (Ashley Parham) and the Song Leader (Tina Mackey).  In addition to several Grade Shepherds, they are asking Calvary to provide the Missionary Story Leader, Wonder Time Leader, Review Game Leader, and Snack Coordinator.

Several of you have already expressed that you might be interested in helping.  If you did so – please e-mail me again to assure me that I can count on you.  If you are now deciding to help or be involved, please e-mail me to tell me that you are interested.  There will be a meeting at Tabernacle Baptist Church this Sunday, August 1 at 4:00 PM. We would like for everyone involved to attend, but at least have good representation from Calvary.  Whether you can attend the meeting or not, I need to have you fill out a “Child Protection Screening Form” that is required by Child Evangelism Fellowship and Anderson School District 1.  Please see me on Sunday to pick up your form and either bring it to the meeting at 4:00 PM or get it back to me before 4:00 PM so that I can take the forms with me.

I am excited about this opportunity.  There were over 100 children involved at West Pelzer each week last year.  What an opportunity to impact children for eternity!

Please consider this exciting ministry!

In Christ –

Mark Roberts

Block Party This Saturday

Just a reminder that we will be having our 2nd Summer Block Party this Sunday evening beginning at 6:00 PM.  We had tremendous participation in the setup and running of the first event, and I am hoping to have equally tremendous participation this Sunday.  The easiest concept is for everyone to plan to do the same things that you did at the first Block Party.  We will then try to fill in the gaps of those who cannot come with those who come this month and not last.

We had 208 registered guests last month with 5 salvations!

Begin praying now for a fantastic attendance and a great harvest!
